Local Solutions to Local Problems

By capsrow · Updated July 2026

Adapt to the market, don't import a playbook.

We find local solutions to local problems. This is what we built Careem on.

Careem mapped streets that global apps could not, because addresses in the region were not reliably mapped.

The winning move was to build for the market as it is, not to copy a model from elsewhere.

The world does not adapt to you.

There's generally a view that the world is going to adapt to you versus you adapting to the world.

The common outsider error is assuming a proven model transfers unchanged. It rarely does.

Careem solved cash payments and unbanked drivers because that was the market's reality.

Build to lift the region.

There's a lot of ambition and desire here to uplift the region because it has been through a lot in the last 20 to 30 years.

The company framed itself as regional infrastructure, not just a ride app.

Purpose in this market was tied to what the region could become, not only what a company could earn.
