Invisible Giant

The diaspora sends more than aid.

The largest development programme in the Global South has no headquarters.

The largest development programme in the Global South has no headquarters.

Money sent home by migrants now runs more than three times official development aid, reaching around 800 million people, roughly one in nine on Earth. It arrives as rent, school fees and medicine, wired by a relative in another city, with no grant cycle and no conditions attached.

The diaspora is not waiting on aid. It is the aid, and it answers to family.
