GCash grew from a way to buy phone load into the country's everyday account: around 81 million monthly active users, more than 94 million Filipinos who have used it, and some 2.5 million sellers and merchants taking payment, from the mall to the sari-sari store. Across thousands of islands, the phone reached where the branch never opened a door.
The decision that mattered: build the whole account into one app, for the customer the branch skipped.
