Invisible Giant

The wallet that banked a country from a feature phone

83 million customers.

In the Global South, the account arrived on the phone that was already in the pocket.

A decade ago most of Bangladesh had no bank account. Nearly everyone had a phone number.

bKash built the account onto the phone. It now serves more than 83 million customers through some 350,000 agents, turning corner shops into cash-in, cash-out points and letting wages from abroad land directly in a family's wallet in minutes.

The decision that mattered: reach people through the phone they already held, not the branch they never visited.

In the Global South, the account arrived in the pocket first.
