The Intelligence Layer

Nigeria's national LLM, one voice at a time

Nigeria is crowdsourcing the data for its own large language model.

By capsrow · Updated July 2026

A national model is only as good as the data a nation is willing to build for it.

Nigeria is building an AI that speaks its languages.

In April 2024 Awarri, working with Nigeria's NITDA, launched LangEasy - a phone app that crowdsources voice and text so the country's first national LLM is trained on five Nigerian languages plus accented English.

The insight: if the data does not exist, build it with the people who need the model.

Awarri is the intelligence layer, built from the ground up.
